Day 9: Sunset

Tim and I spent the day at American Village and Sunset Beach. Luckily it stopped raining just in time for me to get a few shots of the sunset.

Day 8: Eye

Desperate for something to photograph before we head out to dinner. Yes, that is my eye, mascara globs and all! I wasn't quite ready for a full-on self-portrait yet. Cross-processing and vignetting done in Picnik.

Day 7: Tree

I am obsessed with this tree. Every time I go outside I take pictures of it. No matter what the light is like, or what camera setting I use, I can never get it to look quite right. Enter: Picnik. I added some vignetting and used the cross-processing effect.

Day 6: Snail

I was bummed this morning when it was pouring, thinking I wouldn't get any good shots today. But rain in Okinawa stops as quickly as it starts. Afterwards, there were dozens of snails outside, including this one, who seemed interested in my camera.

Day 5: Garbage

I don't see these kind of trash cans much anymore. This is the first photo I've posted with some post-processing. I used Picnik (my new favorite thing on the internet) to boost the color here, but that's it. I had to restrain myself from adding a bunch of cool effects.

Day 4: Hallway

The halls in this place are eerie. They give one a feeling of being trapped in some sort of abandoned mental hospital. It's enough to make one disinclined to leave one's room.

Day 3: Cherry

Went to the commissary today and bought a fridge full of food. That's a great feeling.

Day 2: Lily

Tim and I spent the day at the Churaumi Aquarium in Nago. When we saw that an annual pass is about as much as two day passes, we decided to splurge. We are now card-carrying annual pass holders :) Today we discovered a beautiful lily pond just next to the aquarium that we had totally missed last time.

Day 1: Here We Go!

And we're off!

Tim and I went to dinner at Sam's by the Sea in Awase to celebrate our 2 week wedding anniversary :) After our "punch for two" pretty much became "punch for one" (my dear husband was driving), I was fascinated with this coral light fixture in the bathroom.

Let the madness begin!

Getting Started

Project 365 is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I love the idea of pushing yourself to take a photo every day, even when you don't feel like it or don't have anything interesting to photograph. I have had my Canon G10 for over a year now, and I am still learning about a lot of the features. I always told myself that when I had done all I could do with the G10, I would save up and buy a DSLR. Well, over a year later I just discovered manual focus, so...clearly I need a push. I'm hoping this project will give me the kick in the ass I need to really master my point-and-shoot. In a year, if I have truly completed this project, I plan to reward myself with a fancy pants DSLR.

This seems like a great year to do this. It will be a great way to document my first year of marriage. I am going to be traveling the world, exploring new places, having lots of fun nights with friends. It also helps that I don't have a job right now. And while my pictures may not be top notch, I can take that little G10 with me almost anywhere. Basically, I ran out of reasons not to do it.

I know this is going to be a challenge. There are going to be busy days, lethargic days, and crazy days when I just don't feel like being creative or making the effort. I know that keeping a blog going is a good way to keep myself accountable and stay on track. That said, I am also not ready to share this with the world yet (read: my mom and best friend). So, until I get some momentum going, this is just for me.

We'll see how it goes!
